So, like, I was just casually browsing FARFETCH the other day (as you do, right?) and saw these Alberto Fasciani sneakers. Pretty snazzy, I guess, if you’re into that sort of thing. But then I started thinking, “Okay, *why* are these things so expensive?” Is it just the name? The “designer” label slapped on the side? And honestly, I still don’t entirely get it.

Then I stumbled upon some sneakers with, uh, *skeletons* on them. Yeah, you read that right. Skeletons. On shoes. Skel hi-tops, apparently. I mean, I guess if you’re going for a really *edgy* look, go for it? But personally, I’m more of a “not-wearing-bones-on-my-feet” kind of person. Just my two cents.

And don’t even get me *started* on the Balenciaga thing. Apparently, they’re trying to bring “sculptural volume” to sneakers, like they’re some kind of architectural masterpiece for your feet. Look, I appreciate art, I really do. But are we seriously taking sneakers *this* seriously? It’s a shoe! You wear it! You walk in it! Does it really need to look like a modern art installation? Prolly not.

The whole “luxury sneaker” thing is kinda bonkers, though. I mean, from Prada to Gucci to… Fear of God? Visvim? Half of these brands I’ve never even *heard* of! Apparently, there’s a “brand of luxury sneakers to suit every discerning gent’s style.” Right. Because every “gent” is just dying to drop a grand (or more!) on a pair of shoes they’ll probably wear to the grocery store. *eyeroll*

Oh, and Y-3? Don’t even get me started. Designer Yohji Yamamoto is doing his thing, which is cool, I guess. But at what point does a sneaker just become a… sneaker? Like, is there a point where you’re paying more for the *name* than the actual shoe? I’m pretty sure the answer is a resounding “yes.”

And then you get the whole “sale” situation. “Men’s Designer Sneakers on Sale!” Like it’s some kind of national holiday. Suddenly everyone’s scrambling to find the “latest sneaker drops” from Burberry and other “best-loved brands.” Honestly, the whole thing feels a bit… manufactured? Like everyone’s just trying to keep up with the Joneses, only the Joneses are wearing limited-edition, ridiculously overpriced sneakers.
