First off, you’ll see “Price on Request” thrown around a LOT. This basically means “If you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.” I hate that, personally. Give me a number, man! Are we talking a down payment on a house, or like, a REALLY nice used car? Gotta know the playing field.
Then, when you DO get some numbers, they’re all over the map. I saw one thing saying the *average* AP watch is like $35,000. Thirty-five THOUSAND dollars! For a *watch*? I mean, they’re gorgeous, no doubt, but my car cost less than that! (Okay, my car is old, but still!). Then another one said Royal Oaks average $44,000. What the…
And then! You get the ranges. Like, “$4,000 to $328,000 depending on the model.” See what I mean about all over the place? Like, what are the $4,000 ones even *made* of? Cardboard and hope? And who’s shelling out $328,000? Besides celebrities and oil tycoons, obvi.
I even saw some stuff in, like, Portuguese (?), talking about a Royal Oak in stainless steel costing around 24,800 euros. Which, roughly translated (thanks, Google!), is still a *buttload* of money. Apparently, used ones aren’t much cheaper. Sheesh.
So, what’s the takeaway? Well, if you’re looking for a definite price, good luck. It seems like AP prices are less about actual cost and more about…well, whatever the market will bear. Plus, “Price on Request” just makes it feel kinda exclusive and snobby, doesn’t it?
Frankly, it’s kinda frustrating. I mean, I get they’re luxury items, but the lack of transparency is a bit much. Makes you wonder if they’re just making the prices up as they go along, depending on how you’re dressed when you walk in the store, or something.
