First things first, don’t fall for those CRAZY discount prices. I mean, come on, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I saw this “Michael Kors outlet” online once and it was like, everything was 70% off. Red flag city! Real MK bags are rarely THAT cheap, ya know? Sale prices with 40% discount or more are a definite indication of a fake! I mean, it’s like they’re practically *giving* them away!
The logo is another big one. The current logo is a rectangle with rounded corners and “MK” inside. Now, check the quality of that logo – is it centered? Is it crisp? Is it even the right shape? Crappy fakes often botch the logo, either the placement or the actual design itself. The “MK” emblem should be clear, not blurry or smudged. And I’ve even seen fakes where the font is just…off. Something feels *wrong* but it’s hard to put your finger on it.
Then there’s the hardware. This is where things get a lil’ more tricky. A genuine Hamilton bag will have solid, heavy hardware. Look at the zipper pulls, the buckles, the rings – are they made of cheap plastic? Do they feel flimsy? A lot of fake Michael Kors bags typically have cheap plastic zippers, and the cheapest fakes won’t feature the standard zipper stop. Trust me, you can usually feel the difference. Also, check the stitching. Is it neat and even? Or is it all wonky and uneven? Real designer bags have impeccable stitching. A dead giveaway for a fake is sloppy stitching. Another important thing is the materials. Real Michael Kors uses high-quality leather. The leather should feel supple and luxurious. A fake bag may use cheap synthetic materials that feel stiff, plasticky, or even smell weird.
Now, I personally think the inside of the bag is also super important. What kind of lining do they use? Is it a cheap polyester that feels like it’s going to rip at any second? Or is it a more durable, well-made lining? A real MK bag will have a lining that’s consistent with the quality of the exterior.
And don’t be afraid to do some research! Look up pictures of authentic Hamilton bags online and compare them to the bag you’re looking at. Pay attention to the details – the shape, the size, the hardware placement, the stitching. The more you know about the real thing, the easier it’ll be to spot a fake.
