The whole “StockX is legit” thing? Yeah, well, maybe not always. I’ve been diggin’ through some stuff, and it seems like the whole ‘verification process’ isn’t exactly foolproof. Think about it, if almost a FIFTH of the shoes they reject are suspected fakes (like, 19% according to some data), that’s a HUGE chunk! And they claim to be the BEST at verifying!
And the worst part? It seems like the Wotherspoon stuff is a target. I mean, someone even got 38 FAKE Nikes from them! Thirty-eight! How does that even happen? Like, are they even trying at that point?
I saw something about someone getting a fake shoe (presumably a Sean Wotherspoon one since that’s what we’re talkin’ bout) and StockX basically saying “tough luck.” Can you imagine? You shell out your hard-earned cash for what you THINK is a legit, hyped sneaker, and you get a total knock-off? I’d be livid!
The “official” advice is that if you get a fake, you’re supposed to contact StockX. But honestly, based on what I’m seeing, that’s like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. If they give you the runaround (and apparently they DO), the advice is to do a chargeback with your bank. Which, yeah, you’ll get your money back, but you’ll also be banned from StockX. It’s like, damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Honestly, its kinda messed up.
I’m not saying StockX is ALWAYS selling fakes, okay? They probably authenticate a lot of stuff properly. But the fact that fakes are slipping through the cracks, especially with hyped designers like Sean Wotherspoon, is kinda concerning, ya know?
